Peterborough

topic posted Sat, March 24, 2007 - 9:31 AM by  Auton
I know, this is the Toronto tribe :)
I'm thinking about moving to Peterborough and I did an extensive research over the internet.
Generally, I found good reviews about the city, but I'm still interested about personal experiences.

So, is it really boring to live in Peterborough?
Or there is enough excitement to feel all right?

I'm not a party animal, but I like to check out a few gatherings over the year.
Hiking and outdoor walks are important for me.
I also like to chill ou with my acoustic guitar and engage in a deep conversation with the Machine Elves.

Any inputs appreciated.

I hate Peterborough. I find it to be an awful town. If you are thinking about going to Trent, don't, unless all you like to do is get stoned and eat pizza. If you are not going to Trent, there is very little entertainment for any kind of person there.

peterborough's not that bad, but i guess it all depends on where your comming from. it's a little cracked out but the old people are quite nice, there's lot's of em. it's pretty there in the summer and there are a lot of patio's for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinkin' needs.

I've hear a few people draw similarities between guelph and peterborough, which is nice to say the least.

there is an active social community and social justice activists in peterbrough. there not even too hard to find.

I myself have never lived in Peterborough but have spent a lot of time there.
I think Kevin's impression was a little cold, maybe he didnt have a himself a great time there but i know of a few who do.

The cops in the area kinda suck but what else is new.

Thanks guys for the input. Well, I have no problem with getting stoned and eating pizza-sometimes, but couldn't do that full time.
Social activity is good, I hope there's more than in egocentric BC.

Could you tell me more about the music scene?
Not just Peterborough, but GTA or Ontario in general.
I've already discovered Basilisk's website, so looks like there's a healthy psychedelic trance scene...

I know, it's a big general question, but again, I like the personal point of view.

I find it's hard to get people dancing in Toronto, too self-conscience? i dont know.

If you haven't already check out the Toronto Underground tribe.

i know this is a bit late; but i don't know how these folks are bashing peterbourough; i lived there a summer and i bloody love it. the music scene is pretty amazing; not a weekend goes by without at least one good band to see and the weeknights are promising too. there's a great mix of locals who's parents were locals and so on; who are a bit redneckish i suppose; but good hearted folk and then there's the student population which is really loud and annoying or really conscious and progressive depending on which ones you flock to and your opinion. then there's the hippyish vibe that comes from all the students that didn't leave after school and the goodness that flows from a town full of musicians.
i totally loved the borough and i'd suggest you give it a try...though keep in mind; i live in BC now and love it (not the egocentric parts but there are those in Ontario too)
hope that helps if you're ever reconsidering cause i'mrealizing htis post is from april...

I live near Peterborough, England. It sounds like the Canadian one is as awful as ours. There is little to do here. All the character was destroyed when they pulled down the old town centre and built the concrete monstrosity.
